GAS LEAK AT 8TH STREET

  • An excavator at work on the front yard of a residence at 309 8th Street hit a gas main while replacing the sewer line to the house, on Monday, Aug. 3. Jefferson Cocke County Utilities District (JCCUD) workers responded within minutes to the gas leak, which occurred at 1:15 p.m., and capped the gas main. MONDAY CRASH ON HIGHWAY 25/70 IN NEWPORT

  • A 1994 Ford F250 allegedly pulled from a turning lane headed east on Highway 25/70, on Monday, Aug. 3, around 1:30 p.m., and was hit in the rear by a 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier traveling in the opposite direction, the Newport Police Department reported.
